Blog #4 Theme!

The theme I think from Nothing but the Truth By AVI is becareful what you say beacuse it could haunt you in the end. I say that because in the story Phillip tells his parents about how he got a suspention for singing the national anthem.After that, they parents were staring to talk to reporters then the news got around to televison and people everywhere were sending telegrams to him. He was clearly overwhemled by the publicity. Also his friends started to be rude to him because they thought that what he did was mean and that Miss. Narwin shouldnt have gotten any blame. So most of his friends turned on him and even started a petition to have him take back what he said. In addition to his social life being ruined and overwhelmed, he also felt bad on himself. At the end of the book, Phillip starts crying in class because the teacher asks him to start singing the national anthem. And the teacher asks him whats wrong, and he replies, "I don't know the words." he was keeping that secret to himself throughout the book and must have felt an overwheming sence of guilt becuase he was pretty much lying to everyone because they thought he was singing but he was only really humming. But he must have been very upset about his friends turning on him, the unwanted publicity, and his own inside guilt. Thanks for reading! Untill next time! :)

Blog #3!

The character I would love to know personally would probally be The superitendent, Al Seymour. Hes probally an older/middle aged man. (50's or so.) He is obviously the supeintendent of the schools and he seems honest and sweet. I would like to know him because he seems confident, yet polite. When I say that, I mean he talks in a confident manner but still is courtious. When he was speaking to Ms. Steward of the newspaper, he told he confidently, "Of course not. Whatever gave you that idea? Who told you that?" Then afterwards after the coversation came to a close, he said, "Of course. Your quite welcome." He seems to me as a really kind person. Also, I beileve that he takes his job very seriously. For example he says, "Gert, my job is to make sure these kids get educated. Whatever it takes. Send it." I think that shows alot about how he takes his job seriously and its a number one priority in his life. There are more reasons why, these are only a few. But thanks for reading. Untill next time! :)

Character changes. Blog #2!

Character changes!

One of my favorite characters from books I’ve read was Raina Telgemeier from Smile, written by Raina Telgmeier. She changed from being shy and lacking self-confidence to realizing her own beauty and believing in herself. One way she changed was that in the beginning she was pushed around from her so called friends. One time they were at her birthday party, and she was talking about getting a new retainer for her two missing front teeth. One “friend” responded with, ‘So you’ll look normal soon?’ Also, a couple of friends were outside and Raina was at the vending machine when two girls came up behind her and pulled her skirt down. Two of her “friends”. Finally, she went right up to each person and told them off. She said, “You guys want a reaction from me? Fine. Karin, I’m not a dog. Nicole I’m not a vampire. I’m not going to let the rest of you disrespect me anymore. I’m done. Goodbye.” She eventually found  new friends and bonded with them. The second way she changes is that she learns to love herself exactly the way she is.  In the beginning she feels ashamed that she was missing two teeth.  She says to her new friend, “I just wish boys liked me.” Also, she said, “If I could I’d just hid my face for the next few months!”  But at the end, she says, “I realized that I had been letting the way I looked on the outside affect how I felt on the inside.” She understands that she loves herself for herself, not anything different. I relate so much to her, and I think most girls really do at this age. They think too much about how they look and how to become “popular.” But I learned how to love me, and I really think if anybody has issues with themselves, reading this book will help. My first blog.

1: My favorite book? There is way too many to name. But a couple of my favorites are, The Wedding Planners Daughter series, because they were very relatable to me. And Double Identity by Margret Peterson Haddix, because it was so gripping I couldn’t put it down.

2: I do enjoy reading realistic fiction, along with mysteries and historical fiction. (Usually catastrophic disasters such as the Holocaust, Titanic, etc.)

3: A book I just finished a book called, What My Mother Doesn’t Know by Sonya Sones. It was about a girl, Sophie, who is going through high school and all the troubles with trying to fit in, and growing up. The book starts with her first boyfriend Lou breaking up with her. Eventually she ends up meeting another boy, Dylan. Then a high school romance with a normal girl and a so called popular boy forms. During that time she learns more about her relationship with her family and friends. She has two main best friends, and after a while she realizes that they are getting closer to each other than becoming a stronger trio. But, even before she started dating Dylan, there were many foreshadowing hints that she started having feelings for another guy, Murphy. The least popular kid in school. (His first name was Robin; it was just that nobody liked him so everyone called him Murphy.) She would say that she just wanted to kiss him, so he would able to experience his first/last kiss. She wanted to sit with him and be his partner during classes and etc etc. So, the relationship with Dylan ended because Sophie realized that she did not love Dylan or his personality. She followed her heart and gave love with Murphy a chance. After a couple of dates she started too really like him, and this new relationship continued on. After her two friends came back from vacation, they hung out and got back to the same state as a trio. She did not want to tell her friends that her new mystery man was Murphy because she was embarrassed, and that ended up where she and Murphy got into a little fight. She has to choose between her popularity status as a middle girl, and Murphy with the ridicule that will come with their relationship. Finally she chooses, but read the book to find out. It had a lot of humor and relatable instances so I’m sure a lot of you will like it. Thanks for reading! J
